Can’t get enough of our famous buns?

You can make them yourself, and here’s how. Also check out our FAQ section below:

In a large bowl, add these ingredients in the following order:

  • 12 ½ cups bread flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 Tblsp salt
  • 3 Tblsp instant yeast

 

Mix together, then add:

  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups warm water

 

Mix to form a ball then kneed for 10 to 15 minutes

Let rise for about 1 hour at room temp, then cut into 5 loaves or about 60 buns

Arrange on sheets or pans

Let rise again until double in size (about 1 to 2 hours)then bake at 350 until golden brown, slather with butter and you’re in awesome country!

Buns typically take about 8 to 10 minutes, loaves take around 30 minutes

Don’t be afraid to work up a sweat while kneeding

Don’t cut down on any ingredients

You can use up to half of whole wheat flour for a healthier option, but otherwise sticking to bread flour is your best option

 

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

My buns didn’t rise at all, what happened?

  • You probably forgot the salt or the yeast

My buns rose a little bit then stopped rising, what happened?

  • Your house may be to cool for the yeast to activate rising.  Try letting your dough rise in the oven (with the oven off) and with a bowl of hot water in the oven

My buns fell flat after the second rise what happened?

  •  You may have used too hot of water and killed the yeast.  Use warm water only

My buns rose okay but didn’t bake well, and looked really ugly what happened?

  • You probably didn’t kneed the dough well enough initially

My buns turned out awesome, what happened?

  • You're awesome!
